Develop an impactful experience for kids focused on Nintendo IP

The Challenge

Now in its seventh year of the Nintendo Switch lifecycle, Nintendo wanted to find new ways to engage with the entire family to get hands-on with the Nintendo Switch and its massive stable of AAA titles, including access to Nintendo Switch Online featuring nearly every Mario title ever published!

A highly curated outdoor pre-movie program, culminating in a screening of the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The Solution

Coinciding with the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Inventa partnered with drive-in movie theatres across Canada to bring this Experiential program to life. Our largest Summer footprint yet, we had four different zones to visit, as well as big-screen entertainment via the movie projector. Toad’s Playhouse formed the centrepiece, offering the chance to play games featuring Mario and friends as well as some of the latest on the Nintendo Switch system.

Not one but two photo opportunities immersed guests into the worlds of the Pikmin™ 4 and The Legend of Zelda™: Tears of The Kingdom games. The first 50 guests received free premium plushies as a thank you, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. To top it off, we ran a customized Nintendo pre-movie trivia and Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe racing on the big screen.

The Outcome

  • This 8-day activation  generated a total of 2,347 samples and 4,661 interactions.
  • ON and BC activations featured a VIP lounge where influencers were invited toenjoy the night with front-row seats.
  • Events were promoted through paid media support (DailyHive, Narcity), and organic ads via the drive-in’s social channels. Existing Nintendo account holders in the area received promo emails and a landing page with event details that was shared on
